Google's John Mueller confirmed that the search giant has updated it's mobile results to give an additional ranking boost to mobile-friendly sites. Google announced in March that additional changes to the mobile algorithm were on the way, the first such adjustment since they began using mobile friendliness as a ranking signal back on April of 2015.
With the continuing growth of mobile internet usage, Google has been pretty clear about their commitment to delivering mobile-friendly results to users searching from their phones and tablets. This is especially significant since mobile search now makes up for than half of all searches, making responsive design an important aspect of any site's search marketing strategy.
